Appointments – with immediate effect due to the current situation the practice are limiting those patients that attend the surgery. If you feel you need medical assistance as a first point of contact please telephone us. Our clinical team will be triaging all calls by telephoning you back, if they need to see you they will either offer you a video consultation or potentially if clinically necessary a face to face appointment. By instigating these measures this enables us to follow the latest government guidelines and reduces the footfall of patients coming into the practice; also protecting both you and the staff at the surgery.
Prebookable Telephone Calls with a Specific Clinician – we are still offering these throughout the week and you can telephone us to request one – but please remember these are limited and any emergency will take precedent over these.
Ordering your medication : you do not need to order your repeat medication any earlier than usual, we will not be processing early requests. If we did, this would lead to a potential stock shortage. Please continue to order either via your nominated chemist or click here to order online: https://www.aelfgarsurgery.co.uk/information/prescriptions/ If you wish to register for online click here : https://www.patientaccess.com
Do I need an inhaler ? You may have seen on social media about “respiratory rescue packs”. Please do NOT call your GP and ask for them. They are only given to certain patients as part of a personalised plan for specific conditions. For asthma patients who use the Preventer inhalers it is important they are able to continue to get a supply by prescription. This is an important treatment for these patients. To be clear there is no evidence to suggest that the Preventer inhaler or the blue Salbutamol inhalers will protect against the covid-19 infection Please do not request prescriptions for these medications unless you already use them for your existing conditions and remember those with Asthma and Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease need this medication to be available for their ongoing condition.
Sicknotes : To reduce the burden on GP practices a new online system, created by the NHS and the Department for Work and Pensions, is now live for patients to be emailed a digital isolation note. Isolation notes provide patients with evidence for their employers that they have been advised to self-isolate due to coronavirus, either because they have symptoms or they live with someone who has symptoms and so cannot work. As isolation notes can be obtained without contacting a doctor thus reducing the pressure on GP practices and preventing the individual from having to leave home. The isolation note and information can be located by clicking here : https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/coronavirus-covid-19/self-isolation-advice/
